Thoughts on the 2nd Amendment ruling.

Steve Deace had a rare moment of clarity today. He said in the D.C. vs Heller

Second Amendment case, that the Supremes were determining the constitutionality

of the Constitution. (snort)

He also posed the thought, what should the proper response of been had they ruled

otherwise? The IowaCarry.org president wasn't rising for the bait.

During a news bite, a nitwit from Drake Law School referenced "constitutional" rights.

So many folks can't grasp that it is Constitutionally PROTECTED rights. Not

"constitutional rights". Your rights don't come from the constitution.

Another thought is, this ruling bolsters nothing. If we are so far gone in this country,

that it takes a court to tell us we have the Right to firearms, we are toast.

That we accepted the D.C. situation for 32 years, is not good.

That if the court had ruled the reverse, we would have accepted it. Don't think so?

We accepted it when California took citizens semi-automatic rifles about 8 or 9 years ago.

From my cold dead hands, my butt.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-06-27T02:07:41Z</dcterms:modified>

Second Amendment Concerns

With every passing year, the American people see more and more legislation that would place further limitations on our right to "keep and bear arms." Among other pieces of legislation that have been introduced in the 110th Congress thus far, the Gang Abatement and Prevention Act is of notable concern.

Help Preserve Your Life of Freedom and Security Under the Constitution —
Tell the U.S. House to Vote “No” on H.R. 1022, a New Bill to Ban “Assault Weapons”

Your help is needed to stop a new assault on the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. On Feb. 13, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, “to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.” This bill would not only reauthorize the Clinton “assault weapons” ban of 1994, but would ban many more guns this time around, and furthermore, make the ban permanent.

Congress allowed the 1994 ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a tiny percentage of crimes, before and after the ban was imposed.

McCarthy’s “other purposes” would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the 1994 Clinton “assault weapons” ban, plus millions more guns, including:

Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Since then, manufacturers modified many guns to satisfy the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)

Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)

All semi-automatic shotguns. (e.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main component, called the “receiver.”)

All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles – including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire – because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip.”

Target shooting rifles. (e.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)

Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.

65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.

The importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers.

Bear in mind that whereas the Clinton “Assault Weapons” Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.

All Americans who revere the Constitution, and value their civil rights, particularly the right to keep and bear arms must join with us in strong opposition to this bill. Opposition is spreading on and off the web like wildfire. H.R. 1022 is the most blatant and complete civilian disarmament legislation yet to be proposed in our American history. Call, email, or write your congressman in opposition to H.R. 1022 NOW.

Here is a link to a story on Jews for the Preservation of Firearms
ownership, regarding the ambitions of the current Congress;

http://www.jpfo.org/alert20070122.htm

January 22, 2007

Congress Shafts Second Amendment ... Again

Well, they certainly didn't wait long, did they?

Alan Korwin, author of "Gun Laws of America" ( www.gunlaws.com ), recently alerted us to some ominous activity taking place in Congress. Less than three weeks after the 110th Congress convened, the Democrats have already proposed four -- yes, FOUR -- new gun laws!

"The Child Gun Safety and Gun Access Prevention Act of 2007," H.R.256 ( http://tinyurl.com/3brx43 ) would raise the minimum age for the ownership of a semi-automatic rifle from 18 to 21. In addition, children under 18 attending a gun show must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Worse, it calls for fines and jailtime ...

http://www.gunowners.org/

What impact, if any, will the transformational 2006 Congressional Election have on Second Amendment rights?

While election 2006 may have been a referendum on many things (the President, war in Iraq, Jack Abramoff, Mark Foley for example), it does not translate into greater support for gun control at the grass roots level.

If anything, gun control was notable as a non-issue in this election. In compiling the GOA rating, researchers could hardly find a congressional candidate with any stated position on gun control on campaign websites.

That's not to say many of the newly elected will not support the anti-gun agenda; just that they recognize open support for gun control will cost them at the polls.

Unlike the newly elected members, however, the Democrat Congressional leadership is completely beholden to the far left anti-gun extreme of its party.

House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (F-rated by GOA) is a charter member of the most extreme wing of the party she now leads. As the person who controls what bills come to the floor, Pelosi will be unable to say "No" to the appeals for more gun control by the likes of Sarah Brady and her congressional allies.

The Speaker's strongest House ally in the push for more gun control is long-time Democrat anti-gun activist John Conyers, the likely Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Almost all bills related to the Second Amendment will pass through Conyers' committee. The new Chairman, an extremist who advocates a total handgun ban...

Gun Control on the Back Burner

November 6, 2006

For most Americans, guns are not a political issue. People buy and own guns to protect their families, not to commit crimes. The truth is that even millions of Americans who support and vote for gun control own guns themselves, because deep down they share the basic human need to feel secure in their homes.

The gun control movement has lost momentum in recent years. The Democratic Party has been conspicuously silent on the issue in recent elections because they know it's a political loser. In the midst of declining public support for new gun laws, more and more states have adopted concealed-carry programs. The September 11th terrorist attacks and last year's hurricanes only made matters worse for gun control proponents, as millions of Americans were starkly reminded that we cannot rely on government to protect us from criminals. Gun sales have gone up...

>> Whether you agree or not, it's an interesting lesson in history.
>> Something to think about...

>> In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953,
>> about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
>> and exterminated.

>> >In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5
>> million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
>> exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of
>> 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were
>> rounded up and exterminated.
>> >

>> China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million
>> political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
>> exterminated.

>> Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000
>> Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
>> exterminated.

>> Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
>> Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
>> exterminated.

>> Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million
>> 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
>> exterminated.

>> Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century
>> because of gun control: 56 million.

>> It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by
>> new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their
>> own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500
>> million dollars. The first year results are now in:
>> > a.. Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
>> > a.. Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
>> > a.. Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44
>> percent)!
>
>> > a.. In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are
>> now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned
>> them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!)
>
>> While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
>> armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the
>> past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is
>> unarmed.
>
>> There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the
>> ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
>> safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
>> expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The
>> Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
>>
----You
>> won't see this data on the American evening news or hear our president,
>> governors or other politicians disseminating this information
>> Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
>> gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
>
>> Take note my fellow Americans....before it's too late!
>> The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them
>> of this history lesson.
>> With guns, we are 'citizens'.
>
>> Without them, we are 'subjects'.
>
>> If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to
>> all of your friends.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-09-26T01:06:18Z</dcterms:modified>

Gun Rights

UN Gun Grab Goes Bust (Excerpt)
by Kurt Williamsen
Despite abundant anti-gun sentiment at the UN's recent Small Arms conference, anti-gunners ran into a serious - if temporary - setback.
