Where were they January 1st?

I noticed on CNBC yesterday, that one of the promo's
for an upcoming show was, "Where To Put Your Money Now",
referencing the markets 13 % drop from the first of the year.

Well its a little late for that fella's. Where were you on
Jan. 1? The horse's are out of the barn now.

On another note, I was looking at the annual Kiplinger's Best 25
mutual fund list. 3 of the top fund's were Vanguard. Huh.

Constitution Society

It seems appropriate on the eve of Independence Day, to spend a little
time inside this document, that was at one time, relevant to these United
States, what we call the "Constitution".

Little seen in Washington D.C., it does pop up from time to time in fly
over country. Thanks to a wonderful group in the Republic of Texas,
the internet is blessed with this website, http://constitution.org/ .
This site is run by the       Constitution Society
                                       7793 Burnet Road #37
                                       Austin, TX 78757

I've always had real fond feelings for Texas, they use to be part of the
United States you know.

The major gripe I have with the writers of the Constitution, is that they
did not make it idiot proof, and when politicians tend to run the government,
that is a dangerous proposition. That is what has gotten this country into
the mess it is in, well, that and an asleep (comatose?) citizenry.

Boiled down, I suppose you could say the Constitution was to bind the
Federal government. To LIMIT the government. The modern Supreme Court
peers intently into the Constitution to see if the People have this or that right.
No no no! The People retain the power. The People LEND the government that
power needed to conduct their business. The modern interpretation is only
180 degrees out of phase.

Way before the phrase, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts
absolutely", our founding fathers new that quite well, and wrote a constitution
that denied absolute power to the federal government.

Greed and avarice being what they are, our "bound and restricted" government
soon became 51 %, majority vote, and Katie bar the door! Soon, all kinds
of previously unseen "powers" were found in the halls of Congress. Within a
short period, it was only the odd Ron Paul or so, who would protest and say,
"I am unable to endeavor, to find that section of the Constitution, that allows this
Congress to spend the taxpayers money on this project!"

That's the beauty of "Democracy", mob rule, and politicians drool at the
prospect of currying favor with the voters by spending someone else's
money. All of a sudden, the person who cries foul at say, tax cuts, price supports,
and subsidies to our rural welfare queens, it's the crier who becomes the
"nut, eccentric, kook, and extremist", and is promptly marginalized.

In this, "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" world of Washington, the
agricultural Senators, Grassley and Harkin, decide that well, since you voted
for our Farm Bill, they guess they would vote for that Alaskan bridge to
nowhere.

Long ago has the common sense been lost, that said, "You can't do that!
The Federal government can't give money to farmers, or any
corporation! And you can't have taxpayers in Iowa paying for bridges
in Alaska! Its not in the Constitution!"

That's the beauty of having Government schools, pretty soon, they have
erased the memory of those that might have thought we were a Republic.
Now that most everyone "knows" we are a Democracy, instead of being
laughed off the stage and having tomatoes thrown at them, politicians
who say things like, "we owe it to our seniors", and, "its for the children",
are actually taken seriously.

Article 4, Section 4, The United States shall guarantee to every State
in this Union a Republican Form of Government, ...

Farmers, political leaders gather to 'Take Back' fair competition in the U.S. seed industry

Lincoln, NE – The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) is sponsoring an all-American event to raise awareness about concentration of market power in the seed industry and the impacts on rural Missouri. The event, “Taking It Back: Bringing Fairness and Competition Back to the Seed Industry for Our Farmers,” will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Mark Twain State Park (Stoutsville, Missouri) from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

State Senator Wes Shoemyer will chair the event, and Missouri Farmers Union and American Corn Growers Association are co-sponsors.

“Concentration in the U.S. crop seed industry is hurting Missouri farmers,” said Senator Shoemyer. “In the face of historic weather challenges and expensive fuel, our farmers are paying unprecedented seed prices.”

Speakers from across the U.S. will attend the event, including concentration expert William Heffernan, former Mississippi Judge James Robertson, popular radio talk show host Derry Brownfield, Indiana farmer Troy Roush, and others.

The lack of choice in transgenic and conventional crop seed has been costly to producers, and will become more costly in the future. “As a Missouri farmer, my seed options have become increasingly limited due to trade practices that drive up prices and restrain choice and innovation,” explained Keith Mudd, OCM Board President and Missouri farmer. “Farmers and consumers should not shoulder this cost.”

Regional seed companies are important distribution outlets in rural communities, yet their numbers have declined from about 600 to 150 nationally. These companies want to preserve their independence and provide their customers the best modern varieties available. The market behavior of larger competitors is a huge barrier to restoring competition for our farmers.

“We cannot ignore the consolidation of market power in the U.S. crop seed industry,” said Fred Stokes, Executive Director of OCM. “Our farmers are at a disadvantage, and we owe it to them to take back an open and fair marketplace.”

Those who attend the event will be provided a complimentary dinner and encouraged to engage in dialogue with the political leaders and other guests. Entertainment will include old time music by Miss Crystal and the Codgers.

For more information, visit www.competitivemarkets.com or call Kristina Hubbard at 406.203.4433.

OCM is a nonprofit organization working for open and competitive markets and fair trade for American food producers, consumers and rural communities. OCM’s Seed Concentration Project aims to foster competition, innovation and choice in the crop seed industry.

To: jbs@meetupalliance.com

We just launched a new version of JBS.org (http://www.jbs.org) last night.

Take a look. You'll see a definite difference.

Be sure to look at our twelve new issue pages. See the Issue pages directory at http://www.jbs.org/index.php/issues.

There are also twelve new issue blogs corresponding to the new issues pages. See the directory for the issue blogs at http://www.jbs.org/index.php/blogs.

We also have a new page for the JBS.org Freedom Campaign at http://www.jbs.org/index.php/action-agenda-programs/freedom-campaign. We're still in the process of fleshing out this page. You will see a new JBS.org Freedom Campaign Headlines blog at the top of this page. This blog will be used to give overall direction to JBS.org Freedom Campaign as it expands to cover all twelve issues areas.

Which brings us to an important change in the JBS.org Freedom Campaign. From now on the campaign will be covering news and legislation on all twelve of the issues mentioned above. We'll still be featuring our Block the NAU, Repeal NAFTA, and Stop Illegal Immigration projects, but we'll be adding in new activities for the rest of the twelve issue areas.

You'll also notice the twelve JBS issues are carried over to our new forum at http://jbsforum.org.

Let me know what you think about the changes.

Larry

Obama and "national service"

This is another reason not to vote for Obama, "national service".
Forget what his preacher says, forget what his wife does, 'Barry'
gives you all the reasons you need not to vote for him.

He was on CNN shortly after noon today explaining his call for mandatory,
or soon to be mandatory national service. Who wouldn't want to be the
beneficiary of some else's labor?  I imagine the government does look
forward to man stealing, who wouldn't?

I would love to have someone forced to work for me, or at a pittance.
I could get a lot more done! It is always benifical to the recipient of
forced labor, not so much so for the one providing the labor.

Ironic it should be a black man that should be a major part of bringing
back legalized slavery.

Colin Powell had a large hand in "national service", he called his
"America's Promise."

Ruth K 7/2/08

I have received at least two e-mails regarding Cindy McCain and I expect to receive many others as there is more 'good' to be said about her than her husband who is actually the candidate for U.S. President.  Well, I sent the John McCain bio. info. out back in February and thought it wouldn't hurt to send it out again.  Also, here is the last response I sent to the person who sent me the Cindy 'you gotta put my husband in the White House' McCain info.:

"Do you realize she was also one of John's affairs during his first marriage?  He divorced his wife and married her?  Also, are you going to get her put on the November ballot or do voters still need to check their convictions at the door and hold their nose to vote for her husband?  Hillary was not the President during her husband's terms and Michelle Obama is not my major concern if Barak is elected."

This is only an excerpt of the John McCain biography in Wikipedia.  I have bolded the paragraphs with information about his two marriages and his children.

Here is the link to the entire entry & references -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain
